When one child’s urgent needs keep interrupting another child’s lesson, it can feel impossible to give everyone the attention they need. Katie shares gentle encouragement for homeschooling in the middle of competing needs, helping each child know they still matter without trying to make every moment perfectly equal.
Have you ever been helping one child with a lesson, only to realize that another child truly needs you more in that same moment?
Maybe it is a baby, a toddler, a child with autism or ADHD, a medical need, a meltdown, or a moment when one child’s body or emotions simply require your full attention. And while you are meeting that urgent need, another child is waiting at the table, trying not to feel forgotten.
In this episode, I’m talking about that hard pull so many mothers know—the feeling that you cannot split yourself into enough pieces to meet every need at once.
This has not been a short season in our home. One of my children has serious needs, and those needs have shaped our family life for years. We have had stopped lessons, interrupted meals, changed plans, and ordinary family moments set aside because something more urgent had to be handled right then.
But I have also watched the Lord grow compassion, patience, and practical love in our family through those very hard places.
This episode is not about creating a perfect system or making sure every child receives the exact same number of minutes. Equal time is not always possible, and equal time is not the same thing as love.
